Day One Do these before you unpack

Document your unit condition with photos Walk every room before you bring anything in. Photograph pre-existing scuffs, stains, damage, or anything that's already not working. Email or text the photos to EWG with a date-stamp so there's no dispute at move-out. This is the single most important thing you can do to protect your security deposit.

Locate your circuit breaker and water shutoff good to know Know where these are before you need them in an emergency. The circuit breaker is typically in a utility closet or hallway panel. The main water shutoff is usually under the kitchen sink or near the water heater.

Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors Press and hold the test button on each detector until it beeps. If any don't respond or chirp repeatedly, submit a service request through TenantCloud immediately.

Save the emergency number in your phone For police and emergency dispatch in Lytle: (830) 769-3434. Save it now so you don't have to search for it later. For life-threatening emergencies, always dial 911 first.

Within 5 Business Days Time-sensitive — don't skip these

Set up electricity with CPS Energy 5-day deadline Per your lease, you have 5 business days from move-in to transfer power into your name. Call CPS Energy at (210) 353-2222 to set up your account. Have your unit address and a government-issued ID ready. Note: water, sewer, and trash are covered by EWG — power is your responsibility.

Download the TenantCloud app This is how you pay rent, submit maintenance requests, and communicate with management. Download it free from the Apple App Store or Google Play. Log in with the email address on your lease.

Set up your payment method in TenantCloud ACH is free All rent payments must be made through TenantCloud — no cash or check. Link your bank account for ACH payments, which carry zero fees for you or EWG. Credit card payments are accepted but carry a 2.9% processing fee charged to you. Set this up before your first payment is due so you're not scrambling at the end of the month.

First Week Get fully settled

Set up a PO Box for your mail USPS home delivery is not available on-property. Visit the Lytle Post Office on Main Street to set up a PO Box and begin receiving mail there. Bring a government-issued ID and proof of address (your lease works). PO Box fees are paid directly to USPS.

Submit a change of address with USPS Once your PO Box is set up, go to moversguide.usps.com to forward mail from your old address. This ensures bills, cards, and packages from your previous address follow you during the transition. There's a small identity-verification fee ($1.10) to complete it online.

Schedule internet and cable service Internet and cable are your responsibility. Call your provider to schedule installation at your new address. Remember: any new cable lines, dish installations, or holes in exterior walls require written approval from EWG first — contact us before any technician does exterior work.

Update your address with your bank and employer Log into your bank and update your address, or stop by a branch. Notify your employer's HR or payroll department so paychecks and W-2s reach you. Don't forget auto-pay subscriptions, credit cards, and insurance policies.

Update your address on your driver's license Texas law requires you to update your driver's license address within 30 days of moving. You can do this online at txdmv.gov or in person at your local DMV office.

Get renters insurance EWG's property insurance covers the building — it does not cover your belongings. Renters insurance protects your furniture, electronics, and personal property from theft, fire, or water damage. It also covers liability if someone is injured in your unit. Policies typically run $10–$20/month and can be set up online in minutes.

Good to Know Rules and reminders

Understand the no-modifications policy Do not make any external modifications to your unit or building without written consent from EWG first. This includes running new cable or phone lines, drilling holes in exterior walls, installing satellite dishes, or any other structural change. If you need something done, contact us and we'll work with you.

Know how to submit a maintenance request All service requests go through TenantCloud — not by phone or text. Open the app, tap "Maintenance," and describe the issue with photos if possible. This creates a written record for both you and EWG. For after-hours emergencies involving water, gas, or safety, call us directly at (210) 698-6900.
